Going to the Baltic Sea (6 Hours from Dresden)

Image
I started out this day without forgetting it was vacation. I woke up and then woke up my sister. Like usual, my parents were already up. I got changed, and then helped pack. Then an hour later, we started packing my sister’s cloths and mine in a big blue suitcase. We had then got everything and put it in the car. My Dad and me went up to and go get my Mom and my sister and then we left. We got on the highway. Something funny about the highway here is that you get on the highway and then you go on a exit, and than you go on another highway, and from that highway, you go on an exit, and that exit will bring to another highway, then that exit will bring you someplace. We stopped for lunch someplace later on. I got this meatball and French-fries while Maggie got the same thing. Mom, had to bring a salad because she could not eat anything there. I don’t remember what Dad got. Mom gave Maggie and me some cucumbers because she doesn’t like them. We went to the bathroom there again. We got ba

First Day of School 2010-2011

On 8/18/10, which was my first day of school and this is how is went. I woke up 20 minutes before I had to just to get a head start. I went to the bathroom, got changed, had breakfast, brushed my teeth(and that's when Maggie woke up), and got everything in my backpack. Then Maggie and Mom were ready and we got on the tram before the one were suppose to go on. We got on that one and it took about 20 minutes on the tram(an hour to walk). We had then walked to the school which took a minute. Mom got her visitor card and we went inside the school. We didn't know what to do, so we just waited in the cafitera. Then we just went to our classroms upstairs. I opened my locker where my school supplies were and grabbed them out. I put my backpack in and changed in my inside shoes and then went in the classroom. I saw my teacher. Her name is Ms. Ann. I put my school supplies in my cubby and put my folder/homework bag on the hook on my desk. We waited and when school started, we had a seat

Letter to Riley

Dear Riley, I'm glad you are enjoying your adventures here in Germany. It is so much fun to look into your eyes as we learn new things together and visit new places. I'm so proud of you, and how you are showing me how to use the Trams. I love that you can tell me what number tram to get on, when I tell you where I want to go in Dresden. You have been a big help when we travel on them. And, when we grocery shop! And I have to take 5 minutes before I put anything in my cart, after I try to read what I want to get, then try to read all the ingredients since I have my food allergies. I will miss you on Wednesday when you go to school, but I can't wait to volunteer in your classroom and bring you and pick you up from school each day. I can't wait to hear about all your adventures, and hoping you can teach me some German! Love, Mom

How Good My Life Feels...

For all my life I have been in the USA, I'd always love to go to another country. I started my 2nd grade school year and as the days went on, is was about October, and that was when I heard my parents talking to each other saying, "Stacey, I looked online at the jobs at GlobalFounries.com and I saw an open job for 6 people. I will have to do interviews to get the job" . My Mom said back "Sure, you can apply for it, I know that you won't get it" . He started doing interviews the next few weeks and I was wondering what country we were going to transfer to if he did get the job. On a Monday when I woke up, my dad said " Mom will tell you at school today if I got the job and she will tell you where we will be going for it and how long we are staying at that country. Then at school, my mom came up to me and said "We are moving to Germany for a year"! I came home and I was so excited! I was finally going to leave the country. We were going to leav

My Sister Had Her "Zuckertuten Fest" Yesterday

Image
On August 14th, 2010, Ballston Spa Resident, Maggie Walz, who moved to Dresden, Germany, because of her father’s GlobalFoundries job, participated in the Dresden International School’s Zuckertuten Festival. The Zuckertuten Festival is where Parents and Siblings go and find toys, Barbies, sugar goods, etc. and put it in a large designed cardboard cone. The parents bring the cone on the day of the festival to the school. The child receives it from their teacher. When the child gets home they open the cone and see what they have & play with it. The principal gave a short speech about going in to first grade and how much fun they will have. Then the 2 classes/40 kids received their own cone. Then the Primary School teacher asked some of the kids what they were looking forward to in First Grade. After the festival, the whole school was invited to see their new teacher and their teacher’s classroom. They let everyone play on the playground and had a school fundraiser BBQ. They served w

Getting Lost Yesterday from the Mall

Yesterday, we wanted to go to the mall to get Maggie's Cone. (A Cone of toys because of when school starts for only 1st graders) We went to a store named Muller and did a lot looking then checked out and then Mom went in this earring store and I waited at a resturant table. Then we left and we got on a bus becasue Prager St. is Contruction right now. I thought in would take us to Bohnhoff Mitte were the 6 NIdersedlitz goes and we could take the 6 home. I kept. saying to Mom, it's the next one, and I kept. repeating it. I went to look at the map and some lady said we were going the wrong way and then I say at the stop that another bus stoped at the stop near our house. We looked and it said that we would have to be on that bus for 50 minutes! We had to do it every know we didn't want to. We got on that one and it took forever. We got off at another stop I wasen't really planning to do, but then took another tram from that stop home. Does that make any sense?

July 30th, 2010 in Berlin

We are in Berlin right now. Yesterday, the movers came and droped off our stuff. I was really busy. We took a tram to a train and then to the Dresden Flughafen/Airport. (Flughafen is Airport in German) We went to Berlin and met the rental apartment lady there at the door. She showed us the apartment and it was nice. It was about 7:00pm and we still didn't have dinner, we went to the place that had the best fish sandwich(and french fries). Dad even let us have a milkshake for our drink. I got Mango and Maggie got Vinilla. We walked back to our rental apartment to go to bed. I had a good day. And we are leaving this place on my birthday like we did last year :(!
