Coming Home

It is sad to leave Germany. When I hit the ground on the airplane at Albany International I felt like there was nothing special in USA after experiencing a year in Europe. We drove back to our house for about 30 min because we were just dropping of our luggage. When I walked in the house I just felt so sad because my body was reminding me that I wasn't in Germany or any other destination in Europe. When I was in Germany, I was planning that when I entered the house for the first time that I would run to my room, but I didn't realize how sad it would be. I looked out the window and saw that there weren't any trams driving by, then plain old cars. It was really sad...

Update in Germany on March 25th, 2011

I am waiting for breakfast to be done, on this morning, which is a Friday morning, here in Germany. After school, Maggie will be going on a sleepover with her best friend a grade above of her, "Mali". That's the German name, but the English/American name is "Molly". The sleepover is lasting just for one night. It will "Maggie-Free", in the house tonight, (That's how I like to call it!) so Mom and Me are going to this old Dresden tram restaurant. We going to try to get there early, so we can sit in the old "6 Nidersedlitz" tram! Dad is still in US, in NY doing stuff. For example he is doing more interview stuff, getting stuff in NY/USA that you can't but in Germany/Dresden.

Right Now (10.13.10)

Right Now, we are at Moms German lesson. We have a break(2 weeks) from school and Mom doesn't with her German lessons. Blasewitz, Shillerplatz, 6. Prellerstraße, 7. Lene-Glatzer-Straße, 8. Könishiemplatz, 9. Augsburger Straße, 10. Blasewitzer Straße and Fetscherstraße, 11. Gabelsberger Straße, 12. Fetscherplatz, 13. Krakenhaus St. Joseph Stift, 14. Straßburger Platz, 15. Deuths-Hygeinum-Musuem, 16. Pirnacher Platz, 17. Prager Straße, 18. Postplatz, 19. Alfred-Althus Straße, Haltepunkt Freiberger Straße, Rosienstraße, Löbtau, Thranter Straße, Bunostraße, Pennricher Straße, Cassbauder Straße, Cotta, Gofred-Celler-Straße, Leutewitz, End Station.

Tram Notes (Issue 1 Season 1)

A DVB tram driver always is a reg. Man or Woman. They have they eyes looking for stop lights, their feet always stepping on breaks and pedals. Every time they come to a stop, they need to press the open door button, right away. When they need to turn, they have the buttons "Left" and "Right" or "Left arrow" or "Right arrow" depending if the tram is older or newer. The trams get their power from a big thing on top hooked up to a wire on the top of the tram. When a tram and another tram pass each other, they will ring a bell or do this weird hand-motion thing with their hands.

My Sister Had Her "Zuckertuten Fest" Yesterday

Image
On August 14th, 2010, Ballston Spa Resident, Maggie Walz, who moved to Dresden, Germany, because of her father’s GlobalFoundries job, participated in the Dresden International School’s Zuckertuten Festival. The Zuckertuten Festival is where Parents and Siblings go and find toys, Barbies, sugar goods, etc. and put it in a large designed cardboard cone. The parents bring the cone on the day of the festival to the school. The child receives it from their teacher. When the child gets home they open the cone and see what they have & play with it. The principal gave a short speech about going in to first grade and how much fun they will have. Then the 2 classes/40 kids received their own cone. Then the Primary School teacher asked some of the kids what they were looking forward to in First Grade. After the festival, the whole school was invited to see their new teacher and their teacher’s classroom. They let everyone play on the playground and had a school fundraiser BBQ. They served w...
